BW railway shots

On a visit to the Swindon Railway museum I did some shots with an old cheap 30mm lens, my Lubitel triplet lens and Lens Baby. The idea was to try to recapture those old BW photos of the time using the museum exhibits.
Much more fun than shooting straight museum shots.

Inglesham Church snaps

Contrary to what many enthusiastic amateur photographers believe, you don’t need new expensive equipment to take reasonable pictures. I visited Inglesham church with only my Canon G5. This camera is now about four years old and I believe you can buy a good S/H one for about £100
Not having a very wide lens is restricting but a decent shot of the interior is still possible

There is little or no difference between 10-12 inch print made from a shot with the G5 or any super new DSLR model.
The DSLR is far more versatile and has the option for using other lenses, Quality would also be much better with very big prints. But I know from experience a majority of people using the latest more expensive DSLRs and lenses never actually make a print! .

It is a shame that so many amateur photographers think equipment is the be all and end of taking good photos. In fact it seems many of them spend more time thinking about equipment than they do about taking pictures.
I often get the impression a few of them only ever take tests shots of the dog or cat!

I often wish I could see just a few shots from equipment mad DSLR users that had a little thought and effort put into them, at least as much as they put into getting new lenses and the latest 'Better' camera.
